Thinking about a mural but not sure where to start? You're in the right place! Every mural and every space is a little different, but I've answered some of the most common questions below to help you know what to expect.

Mural FAQs

How much does a mural cost?

My pricing typically ranges from $22–$40 per square foot, depending on the level of detail, wall texture, and overall scope of the project.

Murals are fully custom, so factors like intricate designs, large scale, or heavily textured surfaces can increase the overall cost due to the additional time and materials involved.

I work closely with you to design something that fits both your vision and space, while making sure the final result feels impactful and worth the investment.

Do you have a project minimum?

Yes. My minimum investment for custom mural is $500 for projects within 50 miles of Raleigh, NC.

Can you work within a specific budget?

Yes. If you have a budget established for your project, I would love to know it.

Knowing your budget doesn't mean I'll simply price the project at that amount. It helps me determine what may realistically be possible within your investment. We can sometimes adjust the mural's size, complexity or coverage to find a solution that works.

I can't accommodate every budget or project, but I'm always happy to have the conversation.

Is there anything I should know before reaching out?

It’s helpful to have an idea of:
-The wall you’d like painted and what material it is
-Approximate size of wall(s)
-A general budget range
-Any inspiration (colors, themes, or styles you’re drawn to)
-Your timeline (when do you want the project completed by)

It’s also helpful to think about what role you want the mural to play in your space—not just what you want it to look like.

For businesses, consider your goal: are you trying to increase foot traffic, create a shareable “photo moment,” or strengthen your branding? A well-designed mural can act as a built-in marketing feature that draws people in and keeps your business top of mind.

For homeowners, think about how you want the space to feel and function. A mural can completely transform a room or exterior and become a long-term focal point that adds personality and value to your home.

You don’t need to have everything figured out—even if you don't know the answers to these questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Will I see the design before you paint it?

Definitely. For custom-designed murals, you'll have the opportunity to review and approve the design before I begin painting.

Most often I can provide a mock-up of the design on your exact wall.

My design fee includes up to two rounds of revisions so we can refine the concept and make sure you're excited about what is going on your wall.

How long does a mural take to complete?

It depends: smaller or simpler murals may take just a day or two to paint, while larger or more detailed projects can take several days or longer.

The size, level of detail, wall texture, accessibility, and working conditions can all affect installation time. I'll provide an estimated painting timeline for your specific project before we get started.

Keep in mind that the design and planning phase happens before installation, so the overall project timeline will be longer than the number of days I'm physically painting your wall.

How does the design process work?

First, I’ll ask that you describe your vision with as much detail as possible and provide
inspiration photos if you have them.
The more information the better! You will not stifle my creativity with too much direction.
Second, I will design a mock-up based on your input and then get your feedback.

There is a design fee to get started:

  • Residential design fee: Starting at $150
  • Commercial design fee: Starting at $250

If you already have a design, like a logo, the design fee is waived

How far in advance should I contact you?

The sooner, the better—especially if you're working toward a specific opening, event, move-in date, school schedule, or other deadline.

My availability changes throughout the year, so I recommend reaching out several weeks in advance whenever possible. That gives us plenty of time for consultation, design, revisions, and installation.

Have a shorter timeline? Still reach out! If my schedule allows, I may be able to accommodate it.

Do you travel?

Yes! I'm based in the Raleigh, North Carolina area and work throughout the Triangle, but I'm happy to travel for the right project.

Projects outside my standard service area may include additional travel expenses such as mileage, lodging, or other travel-related costs. If your wall isn't nearby, don't let that stop you from reaching out.

Does my wall need to be prepared beforehand?

Yes. A mural is only as durable as the surface underneath it.

Walls should be clean, dry, structurally sound, and free of peeling paint, excessive dirt, moisture, mold, or significant damage before painting begins. Depending on the project, the wall may also need to be repaired, cleaned, primed, or painted with a fresh base coat.

Standard mural materials are included in my project pricing, but significant wall repairs, cleaning, power washing, or other surface preparation may be quoted separately or need to be completed before I arrive.

Proper preparation plays a major role in how well the paint adheres and how long the mural lasts.

Can I provide my own design + ideas?

Yes. I'm happy to work from your ideas, inspiration images, color palettes, branding, logos, or existing artwork that you have permission to reproduce.

Your mural doesn't have to start completely from scratch. We'll discuss what you'd like to incorporate and determine the best way to translate it onto your wall.

I don't know what I want painted, can you help?

Absolutely! You don't need to have it all figured out before reaching out. Some clients come to me with a very specific vision, while others simply know they have a blank wall they'd love to transform.

I can help develop a concept based on your space, style, goals, branding, colors, or inspiration. That's part of what makes a custom mural so special—we create something specifically for your space.

Still have questions? I'd be happy to chat about your space and what you have in mind.
